Description
Edo, Snow at Yanagi Bridge, Nezumi Kozo as Takasaki Beian and the Clam Seller Sankichi, No. 26 from the series: Snow, Moon, Flowers

Terrific image of the famous real-life thief Nezumi Kozo disguised as Takasaki Beian beside the young clam seller Sankichi, his basket of clams at his feet. Nezumi Kozo translates roughly as Little Rat Boy, and he was known as the Japanese Robin Hood, stealing from wealthy samurai during the Edo period. He wears a beautifully embossed white fur coat, and looks down at the young boy shivering in the snow. A beauty watches from the doorway, and the inset above shows two women in the snow. A fantastic image based on this true story, with excellent detail and lively color.
