Description
English, circa 1840, of hexagonal section with richly gilt lustred scroll handles, domed cover with pineapple finial, printed and painted with panels of pagodas in Asian gardens on islands, fisherman on a lake, reserves on a dark blue ground with scrolling foliage and flowers, 37-1/2 in., lid restored; regilding, glaze chips around foot. Notes: For a hall vase of similar form, see Geoffrey A. Godden, Mason's China and The Ironstone Wares, Suffolk, 1980, p. 188, plate 290.. Provenance: Valerie Howard, Christie's London, 2003; Tennessee Private Collection; Note: Valerie Howard was a prominent dealer of Mason's in London. After her death, Christie's sold the remaining stock of her shop.
