Description
VERY RARE EGYPTIAN PAINTING ON LINEN, Late Ptolemaic to Roman Period, c. 2nd century BC/AD. The painting depicts Anubis, god of the underworld, carrying the mummy of the deceased, a solar disk above, torches to both sides, and a hound below. 14 x 17 inches. Very rare and reminiscent of scenes from the famous Fayum paintings.
Provenance: The collection of a prominent Egyptologist by descent assembled in the early part of the 20th century and brought to the US in 1954 with the family.
