Description
Two framed painted wood plaques. The first depicts the heraldic badge of the Prince of Wales, It consists of three white ostrich feathers emerging from a gold coronet. A ribbon below the coronet bears the motto Ich Dien, a contraction of the German for "I serve". The second painted plaque (partially unfinished) depicts the Naval Crown above a stag emerging from a coronet, as well as other heraldry symbols. The Naval Crown was a gold crown surmounted with small replicas of the prows of ships and was a Roman military award, given to the first man who boarded an enemy ship during a naval engagement. Each plaque measures 9" x 12.5".
