Description
The Dewitt Clinton was designed by John B. Jervis and reconditioned by the New York Central RR. It's first run between Albany and Schenectady was at a speed of 15 mph in 1831. It was driven to the Chicago Columbian Exposition in 1893 under it's own steam. The original engine had a tender and three coaches (stage type with flanged wheels), and was built at West Point, NY foundry by David Matthew, who was also it's first engineer.' The photographer had apparently ridden on the train in 1833. Image measures 7.25 x 9.25 inches, mounted on original cardstock.
