Alex Katz, now in his eighth decade, is often cited as a progenitor of Pop Art and has exerted his influence over generations of New York painters. He is currently enjoying a renaissance of printmaking, producing some of his finest prints in decades. Working with the legendary silkscreen printer Brand-X (who made prints for Andy Warhol) Katz is creating large, sumptuous portraits of women. In "Christy" Katz has transformed the super-model with his signature style of flat planes, simple lines and fresh colors. This print has been selling in galleries for $18,000.

Alex Katz (AMERICAN, 1927)
Alex Katz was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1927. Between the years 1946 and 49 he studied at the Cooper Union in New York, after which he studied at the renowned Skowhegan School of painting and sculpture in Maine for a year. In 1954 the Roko Gallery in New York holds the first solo-exhibition of his work. In 1974 the Whitney Museum of American Art organizes a travelling exhibition of Alex Katz’s prints. Throughout the next years and up to now his work is exhibited around the globe. His work is also featured in prominent private and public collections.
