Since the 1970’s Ed Baynard has been creating floral still lifes, inspired by Japanese woodblock prints. This pair of aquatints on wove paper depicts orchids, a repeating subject throughout the artist’soeuvre. The orchids, one orange and the other red, lie flat on the paper as stylized compositions that retain a uniform calmness.
Each print measures 30 x 40 inches and is unframed with deckled sheet edges. The left print, "Orchid," is numbered AP VI in pencil in the lower left; the right print, "Red Orchid," is numbered AP III in pencil, in the lower left. Each print is signed and dated in pencil in the lower left. Published by Barbara Gladstone Gallery, the works were executed in 1980 and are in overall good condition.
