Katherine S. Dreier (American, 1877 - 1952). "1 to 40 Variations: Variation #38 [from Volume II]". Lithograph with pochoir coloring. 1937. Signed in pencil with the initials, lower left: stamp signed (as issued) and dated, lower right, numbered in ink lower left. Edition of 65 (80 planned). Cream wove Rives watermarked paper. Full margins; deckle edge left. A fine impression with fresh colors. Very good to fine condition. Provenance: Seymour Hacker, Hacker Art Books, New York City. A very important and extremely uncommon modernist print, rarely encountered signed. From an "artist's proof" edition of the 40 plate portfolios. Lithographic printing and pochoir coloring supervised by Marcel Duchamp in Paris. Overall size: 10 7/8 x 14 in. (276 x 356 mm). Image size: 8 3/8 x 11 7/8 in. (213 x 302 mm).
