Description
Clare Boothe Luce (American, 1903-1987). "Portrait of John of Liechtenstein". Oil on canvas. 1966. Signed "Clare" and dated, lower left. Very good condition; unframed. Provenance: The Honolulu Museum of Art, gift of the Liechtenstein family, accession #3.10,519, since deaccessioned. Accompanied by two museum tags. Paintings by Luce are very rare. As a younger woman, she was a student at the Art Students League of New York and exhibited with the Society of Independent Artists. She was born Ann Clare Boothe in New York City. In 1935, she married Henry Robinson Luce, the publisher of Time, Life, and Fortune. She thereafter called herself Clare Boothe Luce, a frequently-misspelled name that was often confused with that of her exact contemporary Claire Luce, a stage and film actress. Image size: 24 x 18 in. (610 x 457 mm). [27486] |1600| {R100} uzzz~uozz
