*KÜNSTLER FOLLOW ME BOYS/CHAMBERLAIN'S CHARGE STEIN….Two scenes of the Battle of Gettysburg are paired on this stein. The titles of the original paintings as well as a reproduction of Mort Künstler's signature are permanently fired near the base of the stein. A Lithophane (see-through) picture of General Lee appears in the stein's base and is revealed when one holds the stein to the light and looks through it. The heavy cast and antiqued ornamental pewter lid is decorated with embossed stars, cannon balls, swords, and US and CS symbols. A pewter artillery cannon figurine is mounted on the lid. This is a limited edition of only 2,000 pieces. Each stein is registered and individually numbered. The painting on this stein is the same as item #4273: Follow Me, Boys! commemorates Gen. Armistead, Pickett's Charge, July 3, 1863. On the third day of the Battle of Gettysburg, a surviving handful of men in gray presses forward beneath tattered flags, charging desperately in to the smoke and flame of battle on Cemetery Ridge. Armistead received a mortal wound, and nearly all the men with him were killed or captured. Chamberlain's Charge depicts Little Round Top, July 2, 1863. They were the men of the 20th Maine, commanded by Joshua Chamberlain, and their situation was desperate. They anchored the left flank of the Federal line on the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg. Again and again, Chamberlain and his men stood firm against charge after charge by courageous Confederates from Texas and Alabama. Bayonet! he shouted, Forward! and down the hill they charged, over the dead and wounded, through the shattered forest, led by Chamberlain with sword in hand. Shocked, the battle-worn Confederates retreated and the day belonged to the Union.….
