Description
Alberto Vargas was America's favorite Pin-Up artist during the era of WWII and postwar period of the 1950-1980's. His artwork graced the covers and inside pages of Esquire magazine, Playboy and found their way onto the nose of fighter jets during WWII, painted there by pilots as good luck charms or as company mascots, before heading off to meet the enemy. Each Varga Girl became synonymous with home, with camaraderie, or an awaiting sweetheart. In the fog of war, in the face of potential sacrifice, the Varga Girl was also a reminder in between patrols or fire fights that life was much more than about "kill or be killed". They were reminders of hope and the possibility of returning home to better times. The Vargas Legacy Nude series, of which this is # 8, was produced by the Vargas Estate in a regular and a Deluxe Satin Edition. This is the Deluxe Edition, framed in a rare custom-crafted wooden frame, with deep set plexi shadow box made cream colored linens that tonally compliment the lifelike flesh tones Vargas was so admired for. It is piece 173/200; a signed Limited Edition Lithograph on silk paper.
