Condition
As found. Canvas has been laid down on a board. A centimeter sized loss to paint is observed at the center of the bottom edge, with a similar sized loss noted along the right edge. Several smaller fleabite sized chips in the trees and sky around the figures. Black spots observed on the left and right side of Venus’ head, possibly from a varnish, the largest about ½” diameter. A centimeter sized loss is noted just below Venus, in the center of the canvas. Craquelure is observed throughout the paint surface on the lower left side of the canvas, with two raised cracks, approximately ¼” long. A horizontal area of craquelure is seen through Cupid’s face. The painting is held loosely in the frame and moves slightly. A classic scene.
