In the Manner of Arthur Fitzwilliam Tait, "The Day's Catch," 19th c., oil on canvas, signed "A. F. Tait" l.r., presented in a gilt frame, H.- 24 1/2 in., W.- 29 1/2 in.
Condition
Condition consistent with age and use. Not examined out of frame. Craquelure is observed throughout. Three lines of lighter paint – the longest approximately 5 inches – are noted in the sky, one in the top right, one in the top left, and one in the center. The areas fluoresce under UV light – apparent repairs. Scattered areas of inpainting are observed throughout the canvas, with the largest area noted in the wooded area at the center. A peaceful scene.
