This is an original albumen photographic print from about 1890, showing a view of the Grand Hotel New York in Florence, Italy. The details are sharp and we can see many pedestrians walking in fine clothing, and a man on horseback. This photo was part of the Burnham Library of Architecture's former photography collection at the Art Institute of Chicago, which was disbursed in the 1970's. The photo is mounted on heavy card stock, which bears hand written identification and a rubber stamp impression from that collection. The back is also has the original caption from the photo, identifying the photographer as Alinari, who is known for documenting all things Italian. This view into the past is collectible, and when framed it will be a sophisticated addition to your home or office. Silver photographic prints from the albumen paper era (1855-1895) generally show some form of deterioration, or possess spots and blemishes of chemical origin that distinguish them as actual photographic prints.
