Looking at this1914 photo of the Coliseum in its heavy dark oak frame brings back memories of comfortable old libraries and the hallowed halls of learning. This print is historical for several reasons: The subject; the framing is a solid piece of the Arts & Crafts aesthetic movement, and the collotype printing process is an early form of mechanical reproduction of photos. The frame features the word Coliseum in applied carved oak letters and measures 30"x40" The image has toning, and due to that, has a very mellow and aged look. The old wooden backing boards have been replaced with acid-free materials, and a thin mat has been added to separate the print from the glass.
