The famous 'Wasmuth portfolio' on the work of Frank Lloyd Wright is considered one of the most important publications on modern architecture
The work 'Ausgeführte Bauten und Entwürfe von Frank Lloyd Wright' (Studies and Executed Buildings by Frank Lloyd Wright) first published by Wasmuth in 1910, offers a comprehensive overview over all buildings the great architect had executed or planned by 1909. The 100 plates show illustrations of projects that Wright had realized and also those that he had only planned, conveying his ideas of 'organic architecture'. Frank Lloyd Wright succeeded in developing and implementing his ideas in such a coherent manner that is unmatched by other 20th century architects. He wrote an introduction for the portfolio in which he outlines his relation with the tradition of western architecture in a complex theoretic manner. In this second edition from 1924, a slightly diminished reprint from the first edition, the plates were combined in one volume. The 30-page text addition comprises Wright's introduction as well as explanations on the loose plates.
