Robert C. Koepnick (1907-1995). A bronze seated male nude; ht. 34.5, wd. 13.5, dp. 15 in.
Koepnick is a well-known in the Dayton, Ohio area. He studied at both the Dayton Art Institute and the Cranbrook Academy of Art. Koepnick led the Dayton Art Institute's sculpture department from 1936-1975.  As a sculptor, Koepnick worked in a wide variety of mediums such as marble, bronze, ceramics, terra cotta, and aluminum. Koepnick's work is also in the permanent collection of the Dayton Art Institute.  In 2011 the University of Dayton Archives and Special Collections accessioned Koepnick's papers and many examples of his work.
Two of Koepnick's public works can be found just steps away from the Laidley House at George Rogers Clark Park in Covington, Kentucky. Koepnick sculpted the bronze figures of both Simon Kenton, for whom Kenton County was named, and Little Turtle (Michikinikwa), a Miami Indian military leader that led several successful campaigns against the United States forces in the late eighteenth century.Â
