DESCRIPTION: Fred Stone (American, 20th Century). Limited Edition print. The Shoe - 8,000 Wins. Portrait of jockey William Shoemaker. Signed in print with copyright. From left to right, numbered "367/395", signed "Fred Stone", titled "The Shoe-8,000 Wins", and signed "Willie Shoemaker". Under tan and brown matting in a wooden frame. Fred Stone grew up in Los Angeles, California where he graduated from the Los Angeles Art Center School and worked as a magazine artist. Stone went to work for movie studios from 1954-1960 as a scenic painter. His slow method of working led to his change of career, and he began working as a salesman with his brother. It wasn't until his daughter, who worked at a racetrack, invited him for a behind the scenes look that he rediscovered his passion for painting. MEASUREMENTS: 20" x 16-1/2". Overall with frame 30" x 26". CONDITION: Light wear. Chips, scratches, and wear throughout frame.
