Author: Colton, G.W. & C.B.
Hand-colored folding lithographed map. 68.5x83 cm. (27x33¼"), folding into gilt-lettered cloth covers 6x3¾. Signed by Mark Twain on the verso of the map, evidently as a mark of ownership; the signature is on the panel that shows when the map is folding, and the cover is flipped open. Twain spent much time in Arkansas during his river boat days, and his two most famous novels, Tom Sawyer (1876) and Huckleberry Finn (1884) both have parts that take place in Arkansas; one can imagine Twain plotting out his character's movements along the winding Mississippi River on this map. Heading: (Twain, Mark) Place Published: New York Publisher Name: Date Published: 1874 Condition reportCovers worn, front cover detached with spine perished; a few short splits at folds, else the map is in very good condition, covers in need of restoration.
