Description
A Norwegian plique-à-jour spoon, unmarked, possibly by David Andersen, J Tostrup or Marius Hammer, c.1900,decorated with bluebell motifs,17cm long Norwegian plique-à-jour enamel work enjoyed international success following the World’s Columbia Exhibition at Chicago in 1893 where an oil lamp with a large plique-à-jour shade was exhibited by David Andersen. At the Paris Exhibition in 1900, many examples of Tostrup’s work were snapped up by museums, including two exquisite standing dishes which are at the Württembergisches Landesmuseum in Stuttgart. On a smaller scale, spoons proved very popular too, and Liberty & Co. of London offered them for sale as Yuletide gifts in 1896 and 1898.
