Two sweet wine glasses with blue, chain-like, geometrical cut decoration after the design of Otto Prutscher

This pair of sweet wine glasses was produced around 1910 by the bohemian glass manufacture Ludwig Moser & Sons. The design was made by Otto Prutscher and was originally created for the glass manufacture Meyer’s Neffe. Stem and cylindrical goblet show a cobalt blue overlay with chain-like, geometrical cut decoration. The flat round foot is only made of colorless glass. The signature ‘Moser’ is also visible here. The company was established in 1816 by Josef Meyer and was continued by his nephews after his death. In 1922 Ludwig Moser & Sons purchased Meyer’s Neffe and maintained the production of their original designs.

The condition of the exquisite glasses is excellent. In height they measure 12.1 cm, with the diameter being 4.5 cm.

Otto Prutscher (1880-1949)
Otto Prutscher was born in Vienna in 1880. After a carpentry apprenticeship under his father, Prutscher attended a technical college. In 1895, he managed to travel to Paris and London. Afterwards, he studied at arts school, as a student of Franz Matsch and Josef Hoffmann. From 1902, he taught at the Graphische Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt and later at the Vienna School of Applied Arts. Prutscher worked for the Vienna Workshop and was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus. He worked for 'Interieur' magazine and participated in numerous exhibitions. He designed several large residential complexes and interiors, as well as furniture, jewellery, porcelain and textiles. In 1947, Otto Prutscher was awarded the Austrian State Prize for Architecture. (nlu)
