Extraordinary and decorative seasoning set made of bamboo and Bakelite in the form of buttons

This extraordinary seasoning set comes from the Viennese workshop Carl Auböck, designed in the 1950s. A cylindrical wooden vessel is used for the storage of three spice containers made of bamboo, keeping salt, pepper or paprika/peppers. The unscrewable lids are made of Bakelite and appear in a fancy, button-shape design. This button design can be found as bottle opener and stopper.

The seasoning set is overall in very good condition with barely noticeable signs of age and wear. The length of the spice containers measures 21.5 cm. The vessel is 15.5 cm high, the total height is 25 cm.

Carl Auböck Werkstätte
Carl Auböck (1900 – 1957) learnt the basics of bronze work and chiseling early in the family business, before continuing his studies at the academy in Vienna in 1917. From 1919 to 1921 he was a student of Johannes Itten at the Bauhaus in Weimar. In 1926 he took over his parents company. His son, also called Carl Auböck (1924 – 1993) studied first architecture before turning to the near-unknown field of Industrial Design. By the End of the 1940s he started to work for the Workshop of his Father. His designs became internationally very successful. The workshop still exists under Carl Auböck Senior’s daughter-in-law who produced furthermore for Hermès and Pierre Cardin.
