Description
Fabricated of painted composition and wood, these colorfully dressed puppets were created by famed American puppeteer Paul McPharlin for his production of Henry Fielding's 1791 play. Quoting Detroit Institute of Fine Arts web site: "Paul McPharlin (1903-1948) was considered by many to be the preeminent authority on puppetry during the first half of the 1900's. A skilled performer and puppet maker, he established the Marionette Fellowship of Detroit troupe in 1929, organized an important puppetry exhibit for the Chicago World's Fair in 1933, and was a founding member of the Puppeteers of America." This group consists of Glumdalca, Bailiff and Follower.
