Provenance: Removed from the Hotel Bristol, Murano, Italy

This magnificent light fixture features approximately 100 multi-colored leaf-form elements, each measuring 8 1/4” x 7 3/4”, and individually mounted to the painted metal frame. The colors include subtly iridized shades of pale green, blue, yellow and pink. Each leaf is enhanced by its wonderful surface texture, often referred to as corroso. It was designed by Flavio Poli in 1954 for the Hotel Bristol in Murano, Italy and was created by Seguso, one of Murano’s most highly regarded glass workshops. It was originally mounted as one long continuous ceiling fixture. The three fixtures are being offered as individual lots and may be suspended from the ceiling, as originally conceived or could, alternatively, be wall-mounted, offering countless possibilities.

The light fixture is in very good condition, with some light wear to the painted surface of metal frame and is mounted with 55 sockets. It may be disassembled for purposes of shipping. It measures 9 ½” x 80” x 49” (height x width x depth).

Flavio Poli (1900-1984)

Flavio Poli was a glass designer based in Venice, Italy. Poli joined the company Seguso Vetri d’Arte in 1934 as a design consultant. He worked with both Angelo and Archimede Seguso during his tenure at the company. During Poli’s association with Seguso, the company exhibited pieces at the 1935 Brussels Worlds Fair, 1936 Milan Triennale and 1937 Paris World Fair. Some of his most impressive work, however, dates from the 1950s. Recently, Poli’s work was featured in an exhibit of Seguso Vetri d’Arte at the Design Museum, Ghent.
