Jean Royère (1902-1981)
Jean Royère was a French designer of furniture and interiors. Originally employed as an import-export trader, Royère quit his job at the age of 29 and began studying to be an interior designer in the cabinetmaking workshops of Faubourg Saint-Antoine in Paris. In 1934, Royère found success when he was commissioned to design the layout of the Brasserie Carlton on the Champs Elysees. Some of his most notable patrons included King Farouk, the Shah of Iran, and King Hussein of Jordan, who all hired him to create the layout of their palaces. Royère was celebrated during his life for his combination of precious materials, organic forms, and vivid colors. He was dedicated to the creation of spacious and interesting rooms for both play and leisure.
