Cheng Cangpo (1903-1989): Calligraphy Hanging scroll, ink on paper, inscribed and signed 'Canpo', with two seals. 37 1/2 x 10 1/4 inches (95.2 x 26 cm) Provenance:Private Collection of a Prominent Kuomintang Government Statesman, and thence by descent within the family to the current owner. After completing his studies in France, Cheng Cangpo came home in the early 1930s to manage the Nationalist Party's main newspaper (Zhong Yang Ribao). By the mid-1930s, Cheng transformed the newsprint into a major success for the party, selling over twenty-thousand copies per issue.
