Description
An Austro-Hungarian silver and enamel model of a hippocampus by Hermann Boehm, control mark A for Vienna, circa 1900, recumbent with outstretched wings, its head turned slightly, on a double disc base, the underside with winged masks and scrolls on a light blue ground, on an ebonised plinth, 12cm (4 3/4in) high, the base 6.5cm (2 1/2in) square Hermann Boehm (active 1866-1922), late Politzer & Boehm, was famous for his enamel works and his silver and gold works with precious stones. His products were exported worldwide. In 1873 he participated at the World Exhibition in Vienna.
