Ryder’s use of color forces the viewer to experience the contrasting elements that are found in this mountainous picture. The dark green trees are settled between the soft, light-blue mountain in the background and the bright green grass in the foreground. These elements combine to show the audience what Ryder saw as he traveled throughout the rocky Appalachians.
This painting measures 12 x 16 inches and is an oil on masonite with the artist’s signature in the lower left corner.
Yellowing to varnish; slight surface dirt; frame abrasions visible along lower left corner; slight loss lower left corner. Under UV, pin-hole loss in center right. Otherwise appears in basic good condition.
