François Charles Cachoud (French, 1866-1943)

François Charles Cachoud, inspired by idyllic, nocturnal landscape scenes, began his studies as an engineer, but then obtained a grant from the General Council of Savoie, which led him to L’Ecole des Beaux Artes in Paris in 1889. A pupil of Gustave Moreau and Delaunay, he is known for his masterful ability to capture the effects of twilight in nature. He debuted at the Paris Salon in 1892, where he eventually became a committee member by the end of his career. In 1937, Cachoud was awarded the gold medal at the International Exhibition in Paris. His landscapes, portraits and still life paintings can be found in several international museum collections, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Musée du Petit Palais.
