UNICORN WHALE TOOTH IVORY PIE CRIMPER

Description: This is a fine and important whale tooth ivory and ebony crimper CA. 1870, both sections of whale tooth ivory are joined together at the center by an ebony section carved to depict a sea unicorn. The horn is whale ivory, and appears to have been reattached. The wheel is joined to the unicorn's forelegs and is carved with the shape of a five pointed star which supports the fluted crimping band. There is a similar example in the New Bedford Museaum.
Condition : Repair to horn of unicorn and one ear.
