Rare shot of the first moon landing from July 21, 1969
The present photograph was taken on July 21, 1969 during the Apollo 11 mission. Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldrin – the second man on the moon after Neil Armstrong – is photographed by Armstrong at work on the lunar surface, standing in front of the Lunar Module ‘Eagle’ and holding the Early Apollo Scientific Experiments Package (EASEP).
The photograph is numbered ‘NASA, AS11-40-5931’ on the upper left margin. It bears the NASA stamp, a copyright note from the U.S. government and a detailed description of the image content on verso. The print is in good condition considering its age; it is mounted with photo corners under a mat. There is a handling crease below the upper margin and a light scuff mark upper left. Outside the depiction, the margins are a little yellowed as well as toned on the back. The image measures 18.4 x 18.6 cm, the dimensions of the sheet are 20.3 x 25.3 cm. The mat measures 33 x 33 cm.
