The photograph shows the lunar module on the surface of the Moon. In the foreground the shadow of the astronaut who is taking the photograph is visible. The lunar module was developed by NASA in the frame of the Apollo program for landing on the Moon. Apollo 16 took place in 1972 under the name Orion. After successful landing on the Moon, the targeted fall maneuver failed and the ascent stage remained in a lunar orbit and later crashed on the Moon uncontrolled.
