Very good condition
Impressive photograph of a golf course at the former location of the Stadion der Weltjugend; Klaus Wefringhaus is known for his panoramic views of landscapes and urban sites
The present work by Klaus Wefringhaus depicts a piece of undeveloped land at the Chausseestraße in Berlin. Until 1992 the Stadion der Weltjugend, the largest sports facility in East Berlin, was located here. After its demolition, a sports arena for the proposed 2000 Olympic Games was planned to be built here. For a long time the area lay idle and served, in the meantime, as a golf tee area, as seen here. Eventually the new headquarters of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND) were built here. The photograph was taken in 1999 and is part of a series of works in which the photographer portrays different places in Berlin that are steeped in history.
This is number 1 from a limited edition of 6. The work is signed, titled, dated and numbered ‘1/6 / Stadion der Weltjugend 1 / Klaus Wefringhaus ‘99‘ on verso in black marker. The photograph is in very good condition (examined in the frame). The dimensions of the frame are 82.5 x 194 cm.
