The Warsaw artist Wladyslaw Chmielinski had a penchant for winter landscapes; in 2003, a pair of his winter scenes fetched up to €16,300 at an international auction

Panting horses, jingling bells and crunching snow under the hooves. The Polish artist Wladyslaw Chmielinski knew how to capture the winter in its most beautiful facets. The present pair reveals two characteristic sleigh scenes of the artist, who deliberately composed his works with an impressive degree of detail. Thus, the snowy landscape reflects the light in delicate pastel tones, while the powerful bodies of the horses surprise us with their life-like expression.

The paintings are both signed lower right ‘Wl. Chmielinski’. They are in very good condition. One frame shows some scattered marks with material losses. The stretchers measure 50.5 x 70.5 cm and the framed overall dimensions are 64 x 84 cm.
