Second half 19th century, 296 x 150 cm, East Caucasus

Very beautiful and finely woven, this Shirvan kilim shows the design of narrow, border-like horizontal stripes that is typical of the region; they either contain stepped polygons and cross devices or halved stepped diamonds in alternating colour combinations. Plain red, blue, green and brown stripes have been inserted between them. Shirvan kilims are easily distinguished by the sharp points that run along their lateral sides. - Small repaired areas, good overall condition. Provenance: Signora Gallo Collection
