Marcel Kammerer (1878-1959)
Marcel Kammerer studied architecture at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. His teacher was the famous architect and city planner Otto Wagner. From 1902 to 1910 Kammerer worked in Wagner’s architectural office and independently supervised projects. Together with two colleagues who had also studied at the Academy, he then established his own very successful office that played an important role in the Viennese architecture of modernism, till the First World War interrupted the work. With the changed economic conditions and architectural requirements in post-war Vienna, Kammerer could not arrange and withdrew from the company and from Vienna to Klosterneuberg. Under the guidance of the painter Franz Rumpler he increasingly devoted himself to painting. After the Second World War Kammerer moved to Canada, where he died. (fea)
