This etching shows more or less concentric circles in fine lines of red, orange and green tones, creating a sublime color effect. The sheet is from the portfolio ‘In a Spin, The Action of the World on Things, Volume II’, which comprises 14 etchings in total and was published in 2002 by The Paragon Press in London. The edition of the portfolio constitute 68 + 6 A. P. copies.


The etching in colors is signed lower right in pencil ‘Damien Hirst’ and in the plate additionally signed lower left ‘Damien Hirst’, titled lower right ‘Catherine Wheel’ and dated upper right ‘29.05.02’. The sheet is in very good condition with a small crease in the lower right corner. The plate measures 96 x 73 cm, the sheet 111 x 91 cm.


Damien Hirst (born 1965)

From 1986 to 1989, the British artist studied art at Goldsmiths College in London without wishing to be bound to an art form. The exhibition ‘Freeze’ that he organized in 1988 in an unused warehouse in London's port district showing his own works and works of his fellow students brought him public attention. Hirst, who often employs in his works with themes of death and life, religion and consumer culture became famous in the 1990s by animal bodies preserved in formaldehyde. Also, the diamond adorned platinum cast of a human skull, that Hirst exhibited in 2007 and sold the same year to a record price, caused a stir.
