The present abstract-geometric stainless steel figure entitled ‘Troy’ is the work of the US-American artist Mac Whitney (b. 1936) and dates from 1990. The triangular stand bears a bold construction that oscillates between half circles, vertical bars and one horizontal bar. The yellow and blue paint of the lower arches enhance4 the construction with subtle color accents.
The stand bears the incised signature ‘Mac Whitney’, the title ‘Troy’ and the date ‘90’. The sculpture shows light wear. The height is 46 cm.
Mac Whitney (b. 1936)
Mac Whitney was born in Manhattan, Kansas, and attended the College of Emporia. He then studied at the Kansas State Teachers College and the Kansas University. In 1969, he moved to Texas and today has a studio in Ovilla, Texas. In 1979, he was commissioned by the city of Houston and commissioned to produce a public, large-scale sculpture. Works by Whitney are on display in the Dallas Museum of Art and numerous other museums in Texas. (cko)
