This painting is made by the Düsseldorf painter Stephan Kaluza, created in 1997. The painter and photographer usually uses for his subjects photographic templates. The work presented here, executed in oil on canvas, depicts the portrait of Russian politician and president Mikhail Gorbachev (b. 1931). Kaluza designed the portrait in expressive colors and revised the image with a pattern of vertical and horizontal strokes, scratched and applied with a spatula.

The painting is signed and dated on the left side ‘St. Kaluza '97’. In the upper center small hole ) in the canvas (c. 3 mm) tiny rubbed, otherwise generally in very good condition. The image measures 150 x 120 cm.

Stephan Kaluza (b. 1964)

Stefan Kaluza was born in 1964 in Bad Iburg. He studied from 1986-1994 at the University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf. From 1990-94 he began a second degree in art history and philosophy at the Academy of Fine Arts and the Heinrich-Heine University in Düsseldorf. In addition to painting, Kaluza works with photography. The artist has participated in numerous exhibitions, his works can be found among others, in collections of the Arp Museum Remagen, the Düsseldorf City Museum, the Collection Dahlmann Hamburg, the Portland Museum of Contemporary Art or the Collection Munoz Madrid as well as the Collection of Francois Pinault in Paris. The artist lives and works in Düsseldorf.
