The artist Russell Young began his career as a celebrity photographer before he started painting. His subjects on the one hand reflect these influences, at the same time they are also an echo of the motives of the Pop Art artist Andy Warhol. Moreover, Young also works in the screen printing process like Warhol did, but enlarges his images to a large format, supplementing the representation with colors or materials such as diamond dust. The image of ‘Marilyn Crying’ is captivating and moving at the same time.
The painting is signed, dated and inscribed ‘Russel Young. 2013. Marilyn suicide. Persian rose + black’ on the reverse. It is in very good condition. The dimensions are 158 x 120.5 cm.
Russell Young (b. 1960)
Russell Young was born in 1960 in the north of England. He studied photography and graphic design at the Chester Art College and began his career as a photographer, portraying mainly famous personalities of his time. In 2001, he started to paint for private matters, however two years later the first solo exhibition and led him to success. His works can be found today in reputable private as well as public collections, these include artists, Hollywood stars and the President Barak Obama.
