The Action Office by George Nelson dates from 1963/64 and was conceived after a large-scale study on the problems of the office work. Nelson, the chief designer, developed a flexible furniture program that was applicable to the respective tasks. The practical, yet very stylish furniture, however, were quite expensive to produce, so that it was followed by a less expensive series. The principle of the Action Office was to adapt to the man and his work, which influenced the office design sustainably.

Dimensions of the desk: 73.5 x 166 x 99 cm; typewriter table: 65 x 126 x 52 cm. The furniture is in very good condition, showing minor wear.

George Nelson (1908-1986)

George Nelson studied architecture at the Yale University from 1924-1928. With the help of a scholarship, he was able to study ate the American Academy in Rome until 1934. He worked as a designer for Herman Miller since 1946 and especially his furniture designs are counted amongst the most signifying ones.

The company has started in 1905 under the name Star Furniture Company until it was taken over by Herman Miller and named thus. He won such names as George Nelson and Ray and Eames Charles for his company. Since 1957, Vitra has the rights to produce the Eames furniture for Herman Miller in Europe.
