Typical objective German Art Déco execution that shows influences of Bauhaus
This mantel clock by the German clock maker Junghans was made during the late period of Art Déco around 1930. German Art Déco was far more objective than elsewhere, also owed to the influence of the Bauhaus. This mantle clock still features characteristic design elements of Art Déco, such as the contrast between chrome and black surfaces.
Dimensions of the clock: 24.3 x 40 x 14 cm. It is in very good condition with minimal traces of use and age. Long term precision and regularity cannot be guaranteed.
Junghans
In 1861, the businessman Erhard Junghans founded a company in Schramberg in the Black Forest along with his brother-in-law Jakob Zeller-Tobler. From 1866, he manufactured his first clock movements, and towards the late 1870s, he produced alarm clocks after the American model, which created a large enlargement of the company. The star, which is still the company’s brand mark, was first registered in 1890. In 1903, Junghans produced more than three million clocks per year and was the largest manufacturer worldwide working with 3000 employees. For the Olympic Games in Munich in1972, Junghans produced the official time measurer.
