Elaborately made ceiling lamp with swallow decor in relief
The French glass manufacturer Muller Frères offered a wide range of artful glass works, from painted vases to a lamp shell with flashed glass or press glass, as it was popular later in Art Déco. Lalique had brought this technique to perfection and his creations were all in line with contemporary taste. This lampshade of dully etched press glass shows a fine swallow decor in relief.
The lamp is 60 cm high and has a diameter of 35 cm. It is in very good condition with just discernible traces of use and aging. Its operational reliability has not been checked and can therefore not be guaranteed.
Muller Frères (1895-1936)
The ten family Muller siblings were all successful glass decorators. The brothers specialized in engraving and glass cutting in the company Emile Gallé in Nancy before opening their own glass decorating workshop in Lunéville. The Mullers mastered painting, engraving and etching, thereby even developing new techniques. 1906 to 1907 they compiled 400 designs in the style of Daum Frères when they were invited to work at the Cristalleries de Val St Lambert in Belgium. Today their floral and landscape decors are renowned in the whole world.
