France, c. 1900
Dimensions: 32 x 25 x 13 cm
Very good condition
Decorative, timelessly elegant Art Nouveau table clock with curved case, floral brass pendulum and key
This table clock of massive walnut was made in France around 1900. For its curved case it can be ascribed to the surroundings of the École de Nancy, which is where the popular furnitures by Louis Majorelles and Émile Gallés, inspired by floral forms, were made. They also served as source of inspiration for other artisans. Long term precision and regularity cannot be guaranteed.
Dimensions of the clock: 32 x 25 x 13 cm. It is in very good condition with minimal traces of use and aging.
École de Nancy
In 1901, The École de Nancy was established by leading exponents of the Art Nouveau in Nancy. Emille Gallé is one of the well-known exponents of the school. The artists found their subjects in the nature, particularly in the Lorraine forest. Thistles, dragonflies and Ginkgo were among the recurring subjects. Another characteristic of the movement was the close collaboration of the artists with industrialists and merchants.
