Description
Early Mezcala Idol 'Shaman or Charm Stone' from Mezcala/Guerrero of Mexico, ca. 400 B.C.This is a Shaman's figural idol used as what is called a 'Charm stone', 'Shaman's stone' or 'Rattle back Figure' in various cultures. The pendant is specifically crafted to bounce around as it lays on the backside and twist and turn, as if occupied by spirits. This was achieved by the twisted grinding upon the backside as ancient celts exhibit.A human effigy is grooved into the front with a tall conical head, arms to side, and delineated legs and feet. Bi-conical drilling for suspension are on the strongly curving back. The example is shaped from a dense green stone with darker green speckled areas, a high polish, and is only lightly cleaned, and retains much original mineral encrustation. Much more interesting example than the normal.Comes with a custom support stand. (4" in height)
