Chaim Herzog, President Of Israel, Letters, Signed. Eighteen typed letters, signed to Patrick Moynihan from Herzog, Israeli President 1983-1988, Herzog, born in Belfast, Ireland, signs his letters, "Vivian". One letter is a copy from Moynihan, after Herzog's election: "Dear Mr. President, Isr'lis are always telling us of their customs. Let me tell you one of ours. No matter how close and dear a friend may be, should he become President, he is addressed as Mr. President. So it shall be..". An excerpt from one of Herzog's letters reads: "I found myself of late very much on the spot because of the very problematic election results, which enabled me to make full use of the discretion given by law to the President. It has not been easy, but I have been guided only by my conscience and do hope that things will work out and that we shall achieve some stability which is absolutely vital if we are to overcome our present economic woes.". Also included is a copy of Herzog's recommendation f Teddy Kollek, Mayor of Jerusalem, for Nobel Peace Prize in 1986. Dates range from 1978-1992.
