Covers farm chores, weather, and relevant financial matters. Entry for Jan. 29, 1858: “One of the greatest Financial Curses ever known in this Country commenced about the middle of October 1857/ it commenced by a general smashup of all the Rail Roads Company throughout the country next the banks suspending payment… it is almost impossible to get cash for any thing yet, and when it will end is more then I shall undertake to state until I find out.” Contemp ¼ leather and marbled boards.
