[Twain, Mark]. 3 Titles. ++ EVE’S DIARY Translated from the Original MS Illustrated by Lester Ralph. London and New York: Harper & Brothers, 1906. 1st edition. 8vo. Orig red cloth with white lettering on front cover & spine and an apple tree on front cover. Slight soiling. Slight foxing at front/rear of volume. Stain in margin of 1st text page and margins of its adjacent illustration. Notation near corner of rfep. Has “London and New York…” on title page. ”Copies bearing (on the copyright page) the rubber-stamped notice: Printed in U.S. of America were prepared for export.” –BAL3489. This does not have that rubber stamp. “Occurs both with, and without, a period after MS on the title-page. The sequence is not known but a reprint (printed February, 1920, according to the code letters on the copyright page) has the period.” –BAL 3489. This does not have the period after “MS”. “Published “June, 1906” on c-page. Johnson pp84-85. McBride p220. ++ EXTRACTS FROM ADAM’S DIARY Translated from the Original MS. Illus. by F. Strothmann. NY and Lon/ Harper & Brothers/Publishers MCMVI. [Possibly 1904.] Title page matches photo-illustration provided by McBride p214. 8vo. Red cloth (matching that of Eve’s Diary, but with a different front cover illustration, and in similar condition). Frontis and title foxed, a little foxing to endpapers. ++ A DOUBLE BARRELLED DETECTIVE STORY. Harper & Brothers, 1902. 8vo. Red cloth with title on front cover within a gold field. Endpapers printed in olive green, divided between 3 panels (each with a mountain peak). Variations in endpapers. Minor fraying at spine ends, lower corners of covers bumped. Plates foxed. 2 plates separated (one of which is the frontis). 7 plates. “Published April, 1902” on c-page. 1st edition. Johnson p75. BAL 3471. McBride p210.
