AN INDIAN SWORD (TALWAR), LATE 18TH/19TH CENTURY
with earlier curved single-edged blade of watered steel, incised with a calligraphic cartouche retaining traces of inlay on one face (small areas of pitting), iron hilt of characteristic form, comprising a pair of short bulbous quillons, integral grip and large disc pommel, decorated over the greater part of its surface with silver foliage and gold flowers, in a green fabric-covered wooden scabbard with iron chape (the chape detached)
