Title: Vintage silver photograph of a street corner in the Ocean Park section of Santa Monica, California
Place Published: California
Publisher:
Date Published: c.1910
Description:
17x11.5 cm. (6¾x4½ "), on original card mount.
Shows a number of citizens gathered in front of the Brady-McLeod Drug Co., perhaps to make payment at the Sunset Tel. &; Tel. Co. Pay Station, or maybe to seek medical or dental care at the upstairs offices of Dr. W.H. Kiger, physician and surgeon, or Dr. L.A. Lauer, dentist. Or, perchance, they were just there to admire the horseless carriage parked out front. Santa Monica and Ocean Park (South Santa Monica) were both settled at the same time. Ocean Park 's history is somewhat independent from that of the rest of Santa Monica. Ocean Park was initially oriented towards the beach where a series of piers and other tourist attractions were erected in 1890 to 1910. One of the city 's oldest neighborhoods, Ocean Park sprang to life with Abott Kinney 's 1891 Ocean Park Development Company.
